Game computers today are doing everything who is not lazy. Only now nothing interesting in such systems, as a rule, is. The basic set of iron, if lucky, is a neat assembly, and … all. MSI Computer production reacted with much more responsibility. Unusual buildings, non -standard assembly, a bunch of software and, of course, top iron. We will talk about one of these systems today – on tests MSI AEGIS TI , Mini-computer with two GeForce GTX 1080 and top Core i7.
We meet
The computer is delivered simply: box, power cable, instructions and drives with drivers. But the system itself is impressive. In size, it is slightly inferior to the usual Middle Tower, but it is very unusual. The case stands on a powerful stand, noticeably tilted forward and personally reminded us of a helmet of some transformer from the film of the same name.
Made and collected everything high quality. It is based on a powerful metal frame, sheathed with plastic panels with a bunch of ventilation slots and a small window on the left side. The front part is decorated with a plastic panel with a bizarre stamping, a red metal grate of ventilation and six luminous stripes. Interestingly, the back is a powerful metal handle, for which the computer can be transferred. For what? Tribute to Western Lan Pati.
As for control, on the roof, closer to the front panel, there is a power button, and the automatic acceleration key, disguised as a msi logo, is located right in the center of the front. All external connectors are located immediately: a pair of 3.5 mm jacks per headset, two USB 3.1 gen.1 (with support for fast charging MSI SUPER CHARGE), new -fangled USB 3.1 gen.2 type-C and … through HDMI for connecting VR harp. Naturally, there are enough connectors on the back of the input/output panel. Here, and four USB of the third and second versions, and still useful PS/2, and LAN from WiFi at 5 GHz served by Killer chips, and, of course, exits to multi -channel acoustics.
Filling
But the most interesting is the computer inside. To begin with, the system is unusual – at first it is not even clear how to get to the filling at all. Under the side walls and the roof, in fact, a metal box is hidden, divided into two independent compartments. In the lower, behind the sliding lid, the main iron is hidden. And in the upper, perpendicular to the table, there are two video cards.
Moreover, AEGIS Ti is extremely unusual from a purely technical point of view. For example, the motherboard (based on Z170 Express) was made clearly at the size of the lower compartment – 32 cm in length and 16 cm in width. In addition, it combines both ordinary desktop and purely laptop technologies. So, for example, there is an ordinary LGA1151, in which the top-end Intel Core i7-6700K is rolled up here. But it works in pairs not with a desktop, but with a laptop DDR4 for 2400 MHz. Moreover, two slots under it stand next to the socket and, as in laptops, parallel to the motherboard. And here are two more memory connectors on the back of the chipset. A pair of ports m.2. MSI installed 256 GB NVMe drives in them and united them into Super RAID 4 at a speed of up to 3 GB/s.
Unusually MSI solved the issue with classic hard drives. At the far end of the rack, on which the computer itself stands, two 3.5-inch compartments were placed, in one of them HDD was already inserted into our version by 2 TB. On the wall of the upper compartment (where the video cards are) made three seats for 2.5-inch drives. True, in our case, the wires were brought to only one slot: the restriction of the motherboard itself affected. She has only four SATA lobes: two are given to 3.5-inch compartments, and one each-by 2.5 inches and Blu-ray drive.
Another interesting detail is how the video cards are connected here. To arrange them parallel to the motherboard, MSI used a patch from one to two PCIe X16. You should not worry about such a solution. Yes, video cards are divided by one slot, but taking into account the capabilities of Z170 Express, even in separate connectors they would still work according to the X8+X8 scheme. As for the video cards themselves, these are dispersed MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X 8G. Under the GPU Boost, they take a frequency of 1847 MHz, and in AEGIS Ti are also connected by a new high-speed SLI-fabric represented by the NVIDIA specially for Pascal's exit.
In work
Surprisingly, despite the dense and rich layout, iron under load works at quite ordinary temperatures. Video cards are heated to standard 76 degrees, and the processor even under LINX is held at 85 degrees and honestly works at 4.2 GHz.
The secret of this behavior is in a competent cooling system (Silent Storm Cooling 3). Firstly, each compartment is built on the principle of the turbine, that is, at the entrance and exit stands on the fan. Secondly, not an ordinary cooler is responsible for the removal of heat from the crystal, but a water-cooled system with a pretty, but, however, not a prominent logo-drivership. Thirdly, the power supply (850 W) is put into a stand and does not warm the space around the motherboard.
Oddly enough, with such a cunning and rather confusing AEGIS Ti scheme, probably one of the quietest computers in our memory. To hear the sound of fans, you need to naturally attach the ear to the body. And we are still talking about the most loud OC Mode mode when the crystal operates at a frequency of 4.6 GHz, and the video cards work on 1847 MHz. But the computer also has a “quiet mode” that activates the key on the front panel. It falls in it to 1822 MHz, and the processor drops to the nominal 4.2 GHz. Truths, however, are higher. GTX 1080 get to almost 80 degrees.
It’s clear, with such a filling, the computer pulls games in any settings and permits. On Full HD, he easily reveals 144-axle matrices, and in 4K he is close to the treasured 60 FPS.

A powerful Nahimic 2 utility is responsible for the sound here. In it you can configure the level of bass, squeeze the dynamic range, highlight in the scene of the voice, play with the equalizer sliders and even turn on the virtual surround. Nahimic also controls the microphone: on the fly you can clean the voice and take away the noise. This works not only with Windows, but also with the XSPLIT GameCaster, which is traditionally given a 12-month premium license.
Another feature of the program – it allows you to assign pre -recorded sound files to the hot keys. For example, in a chat with one button you can throw some victorious screams or a request for help. And finally, a sound radar is built in Nahimic, indicating on the screen from which side there was a shot.
There is software here for network chips. The usual Killer Network allows you to test the connection and distribute the priorities between the programs so that during the game some Skype does not eat half the traffic.
Added to AEGIS TI and a completely new Dragon Eye utility, which displaying a window from YouTube or Twitch Translation. It sounds quite strange, but it helps to pass the time in anticipation of the next raid.
Finally, AEGIS TI has a real “team center” (MSI Gaming Center), where several mini-programs were collected at once. Here is the body lighting (Myastic Light), and different elders for the display, and monitoring the main parameters of the system, and even the profile system that allows you to load settings sets depending on the advanced game.

AEGIS Ti is perhaps one of the most interesting computers in our memory. And it is noteworthy not only with non -standard technical solutions, but also, so to speak, purely consumer properties. An unusual case, a quiet cooling system, top iron, useful software and, importantly, spacious for the future upgrade. If desired, you can always change video cards, and hard drives, and even the current Skylake to Kaby Lake change. In one word – ideal.
